Postdoctoral researchers represent the leading force of young scientific talent, a crucial foundation for high-level professionals, a reserve force for future scientists, and a dynamic cohort in innovation and entrepreneurship. The Guangdong Institute of Intelligence Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as GDIIST) consistently regards the development of its postdoctoral team as a key strategic initiative to enhance the institute’s scientific and technological innovation capabilities.
In recent years, GDIIST has adhered to innovative institutional mechanisms, continuously optimized policy environments, and dedicated efforts to building a classified development and training system for young talent. By expanding the postdoctoral team and improving the scientific innovation capacity of its talent pool, GDIIST contributes to the high-quality development of talent cultivation and technological innovation. It continually provides intellectual and talent support for building the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone (hereinafter referred to as the Cooperation Zone) into a new highland of innovation-driven development.
Establishment of the Sub-Station
In March 2022, with the approval of the National Postdoctoral Management Committee, the GDIIST Sub-Station of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone Postdoctoral Research Workstation was officially established. This milestone signifies a new level in GDIIST’s postdoctoral talent cultivation and research platform development.
Recruitment and Training Scale
GDIIST places great emphasis on postdoctoral recruitment, adhering strictly to the principles of openness, fairness, and impartiality. Applicants are rigorously evaluated based on their research capabilities, academic level, and scientific achievements through assessments and interviews, with selection based on merit.
As of July 31, 2025, GDIIST hosts 36 in-service postdoctoral researchers, with 8 having completed their terms. Over 95% of these postdocs hold doctoral degrees from renowned domestic and international institutions, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of Zurich. Their disciplines span biology, biomedical engineering, computer science and technology, electronic science and technology, systems science, power engineering and engineering thermophysics, control science and engineering, management science and engineering, psychology, and more.
Basic Requirements for Application
Applicants must meet the following basic requirements:
1.Generally under the age of 35 (in special cases, may be extended to 40 with approval from the Cooperation Zone’s postdoctoral management department).
2.Hold a doctoral degree, generally obtained within the last three years.
Those who meet the above requirements and have previously completed a postdoctoral term (not exceeding four years in total) may apply for a second or third term.
Duration of Service
The standard term for postdoctoral researchers is two years. Those applying for early termination must serve at least 21 months. If extended due to research project needs, the term may be prolonged by one year, with a maximum total service period of four years from the initial start date (or six years for those with prior postdoctoral experience).
Compensation and Benefits
GDIIST offers competitive compensation and benefits for postdoctoral researchers:
1.During the initial two-year term: Annual living subsidy of RMB 400,000 from the Cooperation Zone (for two consecutive years) +Base annual salary of at least RMB 120,000 from GDIIST. Total annual income starts at RMB 520,000 (pre-tax).
2.During the extended term (third year): Extended living subsidy of RMB 400,000 from GDIIST +Continued base annual salary of at least RMB 120,000. Total annual income starts at RMB 520,000 (pre-tax).
Note: The Cooperation Zone does not provide living subsidies during the extension period. However, if the extension is approved due to involvement in major national projects (e.g., National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation), the Cooperation Zone will provide a one-time living subsidy of RMB 100,000 in the third year.
3.Subsidy for remaining in or relocating to the Cooperation Zone: Postdocs who remain in or relocate to the Cooperation Zone for entrepreneurship or employment after completing their term will receive an annual living subsidy of RMB 120,000 per person for five consecutive years.
4.Other benefits: Preferential personal income tax policy in the Cooperation Zone (exemption for taxable income exceeding 15%). Additional benefits provided by GDIIST, including annual free health check-ups, employer liability insurance, trade union benefits, and other full-time employee benefits and safeguards.

Development Support
GDIIST provides comprehensive support for postdocs’ scientific innovation and career development:
1.Funding and research conditions:
Research groups provide necessary research funding and conditions.
Active support for attending international academic conferences and exchange activities.
Access to advanced shared research platforms within the institute.
For those requiring extensions due to research projects, GDIIST offers a one-year extended living subsidy to ensure smooth progress.
2.Research project application support:
The Research Management Department regularly holds training sessions for纵向科研项目(e.g., National Natural Science Foundation, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation) applications, providing professional guidance and support.
3.Career development support:
Outstanding postdocs with significant research achievements are prioritized for conversion to full-time researchers (associate or assistant researchers) at GDIIST. As of now, 6 out of 8 completed postdocs have successfully remained employed at the institute.
For those not retained, the Human Resources and Education Department actively provides recruitment information from universities and renowned enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, along with resume optimization and career planning guidance.
Research Achievements
Supported by a comprehensive research and training system, GDIIST postdocs have demonstrated strong research output in innovative practices. As of July 31, 2025, achievements include:
1.Publications: 17 high-level academic papers.
2.Patents: 12 patent applications, including 11 national invention patents (1 authorized) and 1 utility model patent.
3.Research projects: 7 Young Scientists Fund projects (formerly Category C) under the National Natural Science Foundation. Participation in 1 major research initiative of the National Natural Science Foundation. 10 General Projects of the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation. 1 selection for the "Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Support Program."
These achievements reflect the effectiveness of GDIIST's postdoctoral training system and provide a solid foundation for postdocs's career development.
